In this course, we provide foundational computer science training using MIT App Inventor block-based platform.

This course introduces students to mobile app development using MIT App Inventor. They will learn foundational programming, advanced data handling, UI design, API integration, and AI-powered app creation using machine learning tools. By the end of the course, students will have built and packaged over 10 mobile applications.

What Your Child Will Learn

Learn to build android apps using MIT App Inventor, an easy to learn block-based visual coding language developed by MIT lab. App Inventor’s drag-and-drop interface with colorful blocks makes it easy for students to learn and get introduced to coding concepts.

As students create with App Inventor, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically.

Our project based learning approach to MIT App Inventor keeps the learning fun and engaging, while ensuring a solid foundation in mobile app development.

Module 1: Fundamentals & Basic Projects

Introduction to MIT App Inventor

  • Overview of App Inventor; exploring the Designer and Blocks Editor
  • Create a simple app that calculates the area of shapes or converts units.

Variables, Data & Operators

  • Understand variables and data types
  • Learn how to use operators and store user inputs

Project 1: Calculator App using Layouts

  • Introduce arithmetic operations and basic logic
  • Build a simple calculator app using phone components

Conditional Statements

  • Explore if‑else logic and decision‐making in app behavior
  • Apply conditions in app projects (e.g. to validate input)

Project 2: Translator App

  • Implementing Screen Navigations in App Inventor.
  • Create a Translator app that demonstrates language conversion features

Canvas: Digital Doodle & Image Sprites

  • Master the Canvas component for drawing and interaction
  • Create a digital doodle app with animated image sprites

Project 3: Utility App and Radio App using WebViewer

  • Use the WebViewer component to display external web content
  • Integrate simple web content into your app

Storing Information with TinyDB

  • Learn about local data storage: local databases
  • Practice saving and retrieving data with TinyDB

Project 4: Pickup App

  • Integrate prior skills into a capstone project
  • Build a Pickup App (combining UI, storage, and event handling)
  • Present and review project outcomes

Debugging & Packaging

  • Learn about how to debug a project.
  • Use features like “Do it” to find out a bug in a project.
  • Use the Notifier component or additional Labels to show intermediate values if needed.
  • Learn how to add project icons, explore themes and package a project
